PS Freebie: Whimsical Pastels PS Action Set

Freebie time! And I have a ‘new’ something for everyone. Well, new for me at least. It’s been awhile since I gave out a freebie for Photoshop and this time I have Free Photoshop Action set.

I love photography and I love photo manipulation. I have a crazy love affair going on with photo editing softwares, but my favorite would always be Adobe Photoshop. It’s the same thing as musicians going gaga over their guitars and spending a day mooning over gibson explorer at Guitar Center. Lol.

On Photoshop, one of the easiest shortcuts when it comes to editing photos are Photoshop Actions. These are sets of pre-recorded edits that you can play and apply on your photo. I’ve been a fan of PS Actions for so long already, but I didn’t really think of making my own actions till a few weeks back.

This is my very first PS Action set for Free. Whimsical Pastels PS Action set includes whimsical purple, gentle peach, touched by blue and fairy pink. This would work really well with bright, well lighted shots. Here’s some sample images applied with Whimsical Pastels PS Action Set.

Scrapping Freebie: Floral Frames in Cupcake Stripes

Time for some freebies again! Took me more than a week to have this posted. I’ve started making this a few weeks ago, but I stalled. Perhaps I found crowd control rope stanchions to be not that inspiring. Truth is, I’ve been really busy with some web dev work that I found myself uninspired to do something creative.

But the great thing is that, I found out, I could get inspired by stuff I made previously. This time, I just took a look at my freebie: Cupcake Inspired Stripe Patterns and decided, yeah I have to make frames (preferably cute ones) based on this. If you haven’t downloaded the patterns, download it now. I love patterns! You can do lots and lots and lots with it. The variations are practically endless.

And here’s the Floral Frames I dressed up with my cupcake stripes pattern. Total of 5 .png frames so you can use it in most scrapping and layout-ing softwares.

Freebie: 6 Elegant Swirls Business Card Templates

I’ve been on the roll lately. With the freebies, I mean. I guess I’ve been spending a lot of time on some projects and some graphic designing work. And when I’m doing that I usually always end up making some extra stuff. So since I’ll be posting a lot of freebies lately, its like having ipod touch sale but at least now my freebies just ask for a tweet or a facebook like for payment. Hahaha!

Today’s freebie: a set of Elegant Swirls Business Card Templates. I figured a lot of templates available for business card are too formal or masculine and I wanted something a bit more feminine, but not overly so.

All of these are made with Photoshop CS4 and the PSD file format can be edited.

Scrapping Freebie: Cutesy Coffee Stripes Frames

I got happy again making frames for digital scrapbookers out there. Here’s 8 round frames with a floral cut-out opening in the center. I used my freebie Coffee Stripes Pattern to make the variations.

Scrapping Freebie: Cutie Yellow Alpha

This is one of my favorite freebies – the Cutie Papers and Pattern Pack for Photoshop. This initially started as favor to a friend who was looking for a pattern with a cute, yummy, and sunny vibe. I was trying out different looks till I realized I made quite a few good enough to giveaway. I used a couple of dingbats to design this and it turned out really nice.

What is really lovely about patterns is that you can use it in a lot of ways. Not just as paper or background. You can use it as overlay, to modify an embellishment and so on. I was playing around with these patterns this afternoon and came up with an alpha set you can use for you digital scrapbooking needs.

Also big thanks to this PSHero tutorial, check it out if you want to make your own alpha stickers. From the pattern pack I used the yellow pretty flowers pattern and here’s the result. Hope you guys like it.

A Big Thanks

I must confess to losing a bit of mojo a few months ago, when it comes to posting here. Why? If you had been visiting this blog, I’m sure you would have noticed that I had Adsense ads on my sidebars. I know some blogging purists would argue against heavily monetizing a blog, but in my defense I added that extra income stream to help me out too to cover my domain and hosting bills.

While I think I am really generous when it comes to giving out freebies and having other people use it, I am also aware that maintaining a website like this also costs money. Of course, I don’t have bottomless pits of money (I wish!) so I opted to add some ads for a bit of revenue.

Then my world crashed down (at least this little blog’s world hahaha!) when I got an email from the big G saying that this site does not qualify to run their ads coz of yaddah yaddah yaddah and also I feature copyrighted content. That hit me in the gut to be honest coz for one, I work/slave for the freebies I post here. It’s no joke to produce freebie stuff and to be called as someone hosting copyrighted content just disheartened me a lot.

But a day or two after, I realized, they are WRONG! So I should stop being morose about it. Freebies I made are mine and not copyrighted by others. And if I ever use any resource (fonts, base patterns, vectors etc) I make sure they are free to use, and I take extra care to check if they allow personal and commercial use and their terms and tag my freebies accordingly. I am also adamant about linking to whatever web resource were used to produce my free items. And I have NEVER EVER posted a work done by others as is, that I did not heavily modify on my own. I sometimes use resources (I’m sure graphic artists would know this) like textures or fonts from other artists as background, embellishment and always with credit. And in any case, like 90% of my freebies here are made from scratch by me and took me hours, sometimes days to make.

So why was I flagged down? When a gazillion other sites host pirated content but are allowed to get away with it? But no, I did not bother to contest their decision. It’s not worth the effort and besides my earnings from them were just a pittance for this site and could not even seriously buy me my tanning supply. So goodbye Adsense and now I am exploring other income streams.

After all that brouhahaha now I’m really fine with their decision and it did not affect my desire to share whatever creative stuff I come up with for those who can use it. And you know what? My biggest reward is getting comments, especially emailed thanks from scrappers thanking me for the freebies. Also the incoming links from various other sites promoting my work. How cool is that?  And this afternoon I was cleaning out my mediafire account and I was happily surprised coz my freebies had been getting dozens and dozens of downloads.

thank you

I never imagined that. So I feel good about this and happy that at least some folks find my postings useful. Thanks so much everyone. More creative freebies in the works for all of you..

Random Blurb…

I’m cooking some stripe pattern again as my freebie this week. It’s still on the oven. Lol. So I’m blabbing a bit here while I wait for it to cook  be finished. Ha!

As you can see, I missed a couple of weeks of freebies mainly because I was on travel, then when I got back I got really busy. I have language classes, driving lessons, online and web development work. All of that on top of mommy and wifey duties. So if I need to look for godin a4 ultra I really don’t have the time nor the inclination anymore. Sigh.

While I am still very busy I still take time to do graphic design work and doodle on my freebies coz its my way of recharging my batteries. When I fire up my Photoshop or Illustrator, I tend to relax a bit and get creative juices flowing. So check out my latest freebie which I’ll be posting soon after this post.

Ciao! Till later.
