RedHeart Inspired

After my month long vacation, I found myself roped into crocheting again. In fact I had my crocheting needles with me the entire time we were moving from one place to another. And had a crazy time crocheting necklace scarves and belts. Right now I’m crocheting a laptop sleeve for my sister and also two tablet sleeves for myself and a friend.

So what brought on this crocheting frenzy? Easy. RedHeart.com. It. Is. Awesome. I found myself enamored with simple easy to do crocheting projects. To be honest, as much as I drool over big complicated projects, I can’t commit that much time and I know myself, if it takes too much time, I’m just guaranteed not to finish it. So when I was combing for some fashion accessory crocheting project I stumbled across RedHeart again. And got sucked into checking out each and every pattern they have. Lol.

Next up, I’m looking for a pattern for a violin case. Yes, a violin case. This would be a gift for a friend’s daughter who plays the violin. I’m definitely going the extra mile here. But RedHeart is just so inspiring so I’m sure I can do it. Who knows next time I’ll be crocheting and stitching up Mitchell Guitars cases? There is something so awesome and appealing to me about musical instruments sporting crocheted sleeves and cases.

This is another great creative outlet for me, but that’s not saying I’m gonna stop with scrap booking stuff. I’m just getting inspired in a different way and who knows I might get a lot of scrapping ideas from these recent creative find.

Got My Crocheting Groove Back!

It’s  been so long since I took out my crochet craft box and actually held a crochet hook and started a project. You see, I lack the time and perhaps the commitment to finish a crocheting project so I put the box on the shelf and forgot about it. I got into blogging more and more, researching things like outstanding focusrite at Musicians friend, and doing graphic design work on the side.

But to be really honest, I miss crocheting. I’m envious of those who can finish even the simplest crochet pattern. So a couple of weeks ago, I decided I wanna get back into crocheting. And this time I’m picking the simplest patterns and projects so at least I won’t get discouraged and make it to my finish goal.

I’m obsessing much on this scarf necklaces and so that’s what I decided to make. It just entails the simplest of crochet stitches and in no time I got one finished. And now I’m on my second scarf necklace in purple. It’s almost done!!

My next project is all lined up – I wanna make a simple belt. So, I’m a really happy crafter right now..I’m also planning to make crocheted appliques, take photos of them, extract them and make them into scrapbooking elements. Soon.

Featured Digi-Scrapping Resource: Kevin & Amanda’s Fonts

I’m a beginner digital scrapbooker, and there are lots for me to learn and discover about this creative hobby. For me, this is the best part, discovering and learning! I feel like there’s a whole new world just out there waiting for me to be explored. And as I explore, I discover a lot of fantastic resource sites made by really talented awesome people, who takes a lot of time and creative energy to share what they can do, and most for FREE!

These kinds of sites just deserves to be mentioned and shared to others. So I’ll be regularly featuring sites/resources on the crafts I love. Be it crocheting, beading and jewelry and of course, digital scrapbooking.

When it comes to digital scrapbooking, there are several things that can make your project unique. Elements, backgrounds, layout and also the fonts you use.

Since scrapbooking usually is about personal photos, events, then ‘handwritten’ fonts would look really great on it. One of the web’s best resource for free handwriting and scrapbook fonts is Kevin and Amanda. Love the FREE fonts and doodles there.  Their terms of use is equally generous.

Crocheting: Squares and More Squares

Here’s what I had been busy with this past two weeks. Making squares. I chose yellow and white combination coz I want something light and breezy. I plan to sew this altogether to make a throw cover for my working table. I want to put some cover on it coz usually at night I tend to just leave it be and dust really gathers. At least this one can provide some sort of dust protection over my computer and my notes/files.

I dunno when I’ll be done specially since the other day my nieces saw some pieces and begged me to give them some. I dunno what they’ll do with it but I didn’t have the heart to refuse.

Should work more.

What’s Crocheting?

I like the title. Inspired by ‘What’s cooking?’ expression. Hahaha. So what is crocheting this time? I’m actually going crazy coz I’ve been trying to crochet a laptop sleeve. When I went on vacation last year {July} I got myself some mercerized cotton yarn in purple (2 shades) and also in green and orange.

I wanted to make a laptop sleeve from the purple yarn. I wanted it ‘striped’ with monocrome effect. One dark and lighter colors interchanging. But gah! until now I’ve only managed to crochet about an 2 inches x 15 inches of it. I’m just using single crochet all around and plan to add a lining under, then a button as closure. I really have to give this more time otherwise it will drive me nuts. See the photo below? the small lump of purple at the background is what I’ve done so far. Hahaha even that small lump seems to be hiding! Embarrassed probably by my procrastinating habit.

Anyway, at least on the orange and green combo I made a little progress. This is a headband for my daughter. Green band with an orange floral embellishment. Lovely contrast right?

I ‘m going to work more on this and of course would be featuring my finished products =)

I’m A Crocheting Momma!

Crocheting are for grannies? Nah! I don’t think so. In fact, crocheting and other needle crafts are in my eyes, trendy. But that’s not the reason why I picked up my crochet hook, it was simply because it looked interesting and I was excited to know what my not so nifty fingers could come up with.

crocheting yarn

I first crocheted when I was in primary school, I think it was on 5th grade, we were asked to do some needlework as a project. Mom has a big stash of crocheted doilies, table cloth, even curtains made by one of my older cousins who was a crochet fanatic. I was so intrigued by the complicated designs, that I asked Mom to buy me a crochet hook, an orange yarn and I followed the simplest pattern I could find at home.

The result? Thank God, camera’s weren’t a fad during that time and I didn’t take a photo. But what was supposed to be a nice doily turned out as something wavy and ok… I must admit it looked like a hankie. Lol! I didn’t have the patience to follow the pattern. And that was the first and almost last attempt by moi to crochet.

It was only recently that I decided to give crocheting another try. Mostly because another friend was into it with gusto – visit her blog – SreisaatCrafts, and I was happy to have someone to compare notes with, share patterns. So that was the push I needed to give crocheting another go.

And I never looked back! True, I still consider myself a crocheting bumbling amateur, but I find it so much fun. In my downtimes, when I can’t sleep or when I can’t seem to do work, then I just get down to work on a crocheting project.

So far, I’ve done small projects, coz I know my limits, I can’t really take on huge projects because I don’t have time. I’ve been making embellishments, squares, some doilies, drink coasters, scrunchies, and I’m currently working on a netbook case project.

Will be posting photos of some of my finished goodies soon. I’d like to end this post with this quote from Kate Walsh…

“Knitting and crocheting are huge trends right now and many of the latest fashions include knitted and crocheted items or trim. Designer Nicole Miller included a crochet-topped party dress in her latest line. So, grab a few balls of yarn, a needle or a hook and join the fun.”
